This is Mr. Machiz’ sixth year teaching at Arcadia and he is very busy teaching three different classes: Algebra I, Personal Finance, and Trig. Pre Cal. Teaching is actually a second career for Mr. Machiz. He has extensive business experience: he was a Corporate Controller and MIS Manager for eight years; was a Certified Financial Planner for 22 years; and owned his own financial planning firm until he sold it in 2009! His favorite thing about teaching at Arcadia is working with the kids, not only in the classroom, but also on the basketball court. This year will be Mr. Machiz’ ninth season as Arcadia’s Girls Varsity Basketball Coach. During his years as a coach, the team has achieved a cumulative record of 155-87 and has made the state tournament in six of the eight years! In addition, two former Lady Titans, Kylie Herd and Megan Gillespie, played pivotal roles on Mesa Community College’s national championship team for the 2013-14 season. Mr. Machiz also coaches a club basketball team. In fact, his club basketball organization has helped over 50 girls move on to college basketball. For the past four years, Arcadia has been lucky to have Shannon Paloma in the Social Studies Department! With nine years of teaching experience overall, she is a veteran teacher who is very involved on campus. She currently teaches four different classes: Government, Economics, WWII/Vietnam, and Student Government. She also serves as an advisor for Student Government and the Arcadia Student Advisory Board (ASAB). When asked what her favorite thing about teaching is, she responded “The students! They fill my days with such energy! I am constantly surprised by what they can accomplish besides everything else many of them are going through.” Mrs. Paloma’s Educational background includes:
Mrs. Paloma grew up in Richmond, Virginia. Later in life, while completing her student teaching in Germany, she met her husband, Kai. He was stationed there while in the Army. They lived there for four years before moving to Phoenix. HOBBIES OR FAVORITE THINGS TO DO WHEN NOT TEACHING Reading, traveling, Netflix PROUD OF: My husband, Kai. After witnessing Mr. King’s exceptional teaching abilities as a student teacher at Arcadia, Mr. King was asked to join the teaching staff in 2014. Fortunately, he accepted the position and is currently in his second year as one of Arcadia’s AP US History & American/Arizona History teachers. He also serves on Arcadia’s Site Council as a teacher representative, is an Arcadia Student Advisory Board Club Advisor, and is an advisor for the Baking Club and the Sand Volleyball Club. Mr. King grew up in the Arcadia neighborhood and both of his parents still live nearby. He has two brothers who also graduated from Arcadia, in the classes of 2001 & 2007. When not teaching, you might find Mr. King reading, playing video games, biking or swimming. He also considers himself an amateur philosopher. DOG OR CAT PERSON? Dog A RANDOM FACT ABOUT MR. Although new to Arcadia, he brings 12 years of teaching experience with him. He is Arcadia’s e-learning lab coordinator and his favorite thing about teaching is the opportunity to help students individually in a variety of subjects. Mr. Kronenfeld grew up in Brooklyn, NY, moving to Phoenix at age 15. He graduated from Washington High School in Phoenix. And, as you can see above, Mr. Kronenfeld has been very busy since high school. All of this involvement has earned him some significant recognition: National Science Foundation Graduate Fellow; Woodrow Wilson Foundation designate; Phi Eta Sigma and Sigma Xi honorees, and the Moeur Award from ASU. Currently, he serves on Arcadia’s Technology Committee. WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE THINGS TO DO WHEN NOT TEACHING? Reading and crossword puzzles DOG OR CAT PERSON? I don’t have a pet, but if I did, it would be a dog. WHAT ARE YOU PROUD OF? I am proud of my faith, Arcadia High School, and being an American. A RANDOM FACT ABOUT MR. KRONENFELD: I’m a music lover (especially classical, but other genres as well). Submitted Fall 2015 It is obvious Mrs. Dukelow loves math… even her cat‘s name is math-related: Pi (π)!! One of her biggest joys of teaching is helping a student love math for the first time. And Arcadia’s students have enjoyed "learning to love math" from her for the past 11 years. In addition to teaching math at Arcadia, Mrs. Dukelow supports students’ interests outside of the classroom. She serves as the teacher sponsor for several clubs: Club Hope, GSA, the Asian-American Club, and the Feminist Club. She also serves on the School Improvement Team and has been on Site Council for eight years. Mrs. Dukelow grew up in our Arcadia neighborhood and hopes that both of her kids will be Titans one day. She has a two-year old daughter, Charlotte and a three-month old son named Oliver. When not playing with her children, Mrs. Dukelow enjoys painting, reading, and photography. WHAT ARE YOU PROUD OF?
