Numerous members of the AHS National Honor Society helped pack meals at the Arcadia Cares: Food For Kids Packathon held on Saturday, March 24 at the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church. The final number of rice & bean meals packed at the 2018 event were 129,168! This doubled the number of meals packed at the first packathon in 2015 (62,708). The 2018 numbers improved upon the 2017 Packathon results by nearly 40,000 meals. With the 2018 numbers, the four-year total of meals packed is 356,834. Approximately 75% of the meals packed this year will go to the Valley View Community Food Bank to remain in Phoenix to serve needy children, families and individuals. Around 10,000 meals will be sent to the Navajo Nation Reservation in Northern Arizona and the remainder will be shipped to overseas locations. Food for Kidz, a non-profit organization based in Minnesota, provides staple ingredients, such as protein, rice, dehydrated vegetables, seasonings and vitamins, to make nutritious meals. Over 700 volunteers from the Arcadia community assisted with the Fourth Annual Packathon. The Packathon organizers thank the AHS National Honor Society for volunteering their time and supporting the Packathon. WAY TO GO TITANS!
