Teachers Going Above and Beyond...
The PTO offered Arcadia teachers the opportunity to participate in a 2016 Summer Book Club. Five teachers (Mrs. Yeager, Ms. Falteisek, Ms. Tichio, Ms. McKee, and Ms. Waters) chose a New York Times Bestseller, The End of Molasses Classes by Ron Clark, and the PTO purchased a copy for each. The teachers read the book on their own time, met to discuss it, and are in the process of sharing their insights with the rest of the staff through the Titan Times. The books are now in Arcadia's library for other teachers. Ms. Flateisek shared: We learned all kinds of things, but here are some of the bigger ideas we took away: - Make a personal connection with each student. Love what your students love! Ask questions, and then follow up ("How did your event go last night?" etc.) Make eye contact with every student, every day. - SHOW students how to study, don't just expect them to do it. Then find more ways to honor the students who achieve positive results. - Teach students to present themselves with confidence. Being able to greet adults with confidence can take them a long way. All of the teachers said to tell the PTO community THANK YOU for giving them this opportunity!
