Six student-written/directed/produced/cinematographed films, under the supervision of Film/ANN instructor Eric Luse, made their World Premiere at the 2018 Film Festival held on Monday, May 14, before a sold out crowd at the Harkins Shea 14 Theaters:

Students competing at the National Student Television & Film Competition in Nashville over Spring Break were presented with Special Certificates of Recognition for the National Award earned for their documentary on the prompt “Sounds Good to Me”: Jacob Staudenmaier, Nick Forney, Dallas Greene, Narsah (Tate) Khamis, Christopher Smith, Rachael Schulman, Lindsay Formica, Max Swiergol, Dash McDonald, & Alex Teneyck. Numerous Arcadia High School students participated in another Promposal video this year, which was featured on the local television stations. Senior Jacob Staudenmaier, working with multiple other Arcadia film students and friends, successfully created a movie trailer based on Wes Anderson’s “The Grand Budapest Hotel” movie in asking Senior Elle Overs to the Arcadia Prom. Junior Dash McDonald was in charge of the cinematography and also helped with editing and sound work. Other Arcadia students involved in the production included: Christopher Smith, Argon Stern, Max Swiergol, Dallas Greene, Riley Johnson, Carson Charleton, Max McCauley, Mitch Arndt, Avery Greey, Sarah Schneider, Nikki Keller, Avery Moric, Luke Belalu, Luis Ayala, Gaby Schorr, and Mikko. Jacob, Elle and Dash were interviewed last Friday on “Good Morning Arizona” about the 2018 promposal video, which was a follow up to the viral Emma Stone/LaLaLand promposal in 2017. The Teacher Walk Out began Thursday. Although certified staff is still currently receiving paychecks, Arcadia's 22 classified staff members will not be paid during the Walk Out.
The classified staff includes - security - cafeteria - front office assistant staff - & many more. Our certified staff depend on their paychecks, and missing even one day of pay could negatively impact their lives. Minimum wage for AHS 22 classified staff is $1,848 a day So far we have been out of school 5 days We have raised $2,800 Please consider helping out the certified staff members at Arcadia during the Walk Out. Arcadia students were well represented among the 2018 scholarship winners announced by the Rotary Club of Scottsdale:
· Peter J. Fish Business scholarship – first place – Cecilia Forshey ($7500) · Bob Murray Performing Arts scholarship – first place – Jacob Staudenmaier ($7500) · Peter J. Fish Vocational scholarship – first place – Brisa Marroquin ($7500) · Park Shaw First Responder scholarship – first place – Nathaniel Zachariah ($2500) · Athletics scholarship – second place – Jack Spier ($5000) Fifteen scholarships totaling approximately $80,000 were awarded by the Rotary Club to students competing from Arcadia, Chaparral, Saguaro, Desert Mountain and Coronado. Each school was permitted to nominate two students in each of the 8 scholarship categories. Following submission of an application and nomination by their school, the students had to engage in personal interviews with scholarship committee panelists. Susan Metzler, Arcadia’s College and Career Coordinator, was in charge of the scholarship selection process for Arcadia. The student winners were honored at the Rotary Club’s Youth Day Luncheon on April 30 at the McCormick Ranch Golf Club. The Arcadia students thank the Rotary Club for its generous sponsorship of these scholarships. |
