The Arcadia Boys Soccer Team made it into the Sweet 16 and will travel to Independence for First Round State Playoffs tonight at 6:00 PM. Independence is located at 6602 N. 75th Avenue (Glendale/75th Ave). If any fans happen to be in the Glendale area, please come and support your Titans!! Independence is ranked No. 2 in the State, and has made it to the Final Four the last 2 years. The winner of tonight’s game advances to the State Quarter-Finals on Saturday. State Play-In Tournament - Titans Beat Glendale, 3-2 Last Thursday night, the Boys Soccer Team hosted Glendale in the State Play-In Tournament Game. After being down 0-2 at halftime, the Titans rallied behind three goals in the second half by Senior Co-CaptainSebastian Gutierrez to earn a thrilling come-from-behind victory and grab a spot in the State Championship Playoffs. All City Honors Congratulations to Senior Co-Captains Sebastian Gutierrez and Jack Spier for earning All City Recognition which includes the five high schools in the Scottsdale School District. The Arcadia Media Comm students, under the direction of ANN/Film Instructor Eric Luse, are running a Snap-Raise campaign through the first week of February to raise funds for students travelling to and competing in the Student National TV/Film Competition in Nashville in March, and the purchase of much needed new equipment for the ANN and Film Programs. The campaign is going strong, with the students’ goal of raising $5,000. Right now, the campaign is over halfway completed and needs YOUR HELP to reach the students’ goal. If you receive an email from a Media Comm student, please consider making a donation in any amount. And even if you don’t receive an email from a Media Comm student, please consider making a donation to the program in any amount. This project will allow the students to raise money without selling product, saving more time for study & classroom instruction. Sebastian Gutierrez and sophomore Alexis Sanchez lead the scoring spree with two goals each, and sophomore Jack Cowan sealed the game with a last second score at the buzzer. Twinkie Vasquez, Arcadia’s goalie, earned the shutout. For the JV, Antonio Clarke and sophomore Jonathan Gutierrez each contributed two goals, with additional scores coming from sophomores Jose Perez and Will Clayton, freshman Palmer Wright, and Takuma Fujiya.

**LAST WEEK’S GAMES: Chaparral (Jan. 10) – Varsity ties 1-1; JV lose 5-1. Alexis Sanchez scores high lofted goal in the corner of the net to have Titans lead for much of the game. Late in the game, the officials called a foul in the box on Arcadia to permit Chaparral to tie the game with a penalty kick. After playing two 10-minute overtimes without either team scoring, the game ended in a tie. Paradise Valley (Jan. 12) – Varsity lost 4-1; JV lost 3-1. We would like to invite all 8th grade parents to join us on Thursday, January 18th from 6:30 to 8pm in Mt. Olympus. The program consists of a welcome from Mr. Andrews and/or Mr. Stevens followed by a presentation by our counseling team. The counselors will present an overview of the course selection process highlighting each of the academic programs Arcadia has to offer. Throughout, parents are able to ask questions and there will be a question and answer period at the end as well. |
