AHS Teacher Profile: Ives Machiz
This is Mr. Machiz’ sixth year teaching at Arcadia and he is very busy teaching three different classes: Algebra I, Personal Finance, and Trig. Pre Cal. Teaching is actually a second career for Mr. Machiz. He has extensive business experience: he was a Corporate Controller and MIS Manager for eight years; was a Certified Financial Planner for 22 years; and owned his own financial planning firm until he sold it in 2009!

His favorite thing about teaching at Arcadia is working with the kids, not only in the classroom, but also on the basketball court. This year will be Mr. Machiz’ ninth season as Arcadia’s Girls Varsity Basketball Coach. During his years as a coach, the team has achieved a cumulative record of 155-87 and has made the state tournament in six of the eight years! In addition, two former Lady Titans, Kylie Herd and Megan Gillespie, played pivotal roles on Mesa Community College’s national championship team for the 2013-14 season.
Mr. Machiz also coaches a club basketball team. In fact, his club basketball organization has helped over 50 girls move on to college basketball. Arcadia is lucky to have such a talented and conscientious coach on its staff!
