Parents:  We hope that parents will carefully consider all aspects of the pledge, and will join together as a community to keep our children safe.  This pledge is not legally binding.  The purpose is to raise awareness of these issues and open up opportunities for conversations between parents.  See www.scottsdaleparentcouncil.org for Frequently Asked Questions about the SafeHomes Pledge. Sponsored by Arcadia High School  PTO “Partners for Prevention.”     Supported by SUSD

The “SafeHomes” Pledge:
I Pledge to Provide a SafeHome. . .
1.I will not serve alcohol or other drugs to minors, nor will I allow minors to consume alcohol or other drugs in my home or on my property.  ARS 4-244.9 states that it is a Class 1 Misdemeanor (the highest) for any person to supply alcohol to anyone under the age of 21. The penalties are up to $2500 in fines and/or six months in jail. A person is civilly responsible for the actions of the person to whom you've supplied alcohol.
In addition, Arizona legislation allows the suspension of the driver’s license of adults who provide access to alcohol to underage persons. (ARS 4-241.G)

2.I will monitor alcohol and over-the-counter/prescription drugs that are in my home and provide a secure storage place for all forms of firearms.

3.I will be a visible chaperone if my teen gives a party and will not allow unsupervised parties in my home.

4.I wish to be contacted by any parent who personally observes my child using or under the influence of alcohol or other drugs.

5.I will try to communicate with any “SafeHome” parent of a child whom I personally observe using or under the influence of alcohol or other drugs.

Partners for Prevention was founded on the understanding that parents and the community need to work together to provide a safer environment for our children and teens and to encourage them to make healthy and safe choices. PFP is designed to:

  • connect parents by creating opportunities for communication among parents;
  • educate parents by sharing sources of information and resources about alcohol and drug use and other potentially destructive behaviors; and
  • support families that are affected by drug and alcohol use and other destructive behaviors.

Scottsdale Prevention Institute (SPI) works to prevent underage drinking, the use of illegal substances and tobacco, and unacceptable behavior by children and families, through educational programs and crisis support in schools, communities and the workplace.  SPI is the recipient of the Scottsdale Area Chamber of Commerce Sterling Award for non-profit organizations “In Recognition of Excellence, Innovation and Community Leadership.”
